Essential Traffic Safety Tipsby Lydia QuinnThousands of accidents are witnessed everyday which range from minor to the major ones and cause death to many. All of these are a result of careless or aggressive driving. Below is a list of tips that should be kept in mind in order to play it safe: Wear Your Seatbelt! - I cannot emphasize enough on the importance of wearing a seatbelt. You should always wear the seatbelt no matter how long or short your journey is. Obey the Law - The second most important thing is to know and obey the traffic rules. Red lights ask you to stop and not to speed up and run away. Look Around - As the traffic light turns green you should look around. It might take few seconds but can avoid many life threatening collisions. Watch Your Speed - You should know the posted speed limits and keep your speed accordingly. Keep Distance - You should always maintain a distance of at least one car length especially near the congested areas in order to avoid rear-end accidents. Use Turn Signals - You should use turn signals and look before turning on to a major street from a residential neighborhood. Be Calm - If someone else is breaking the rules don't do the same and don't lose your control. Observe Warning Signs - You should carefully observe the warning signs and drive accordingly. Observe Weather - You should drive according to the weather and the condition of the road. Avoid Cell Phones - You should avoid the use of cell phone while driving and even if you've to use it try to make it minimum. Avoid Drink or Drugs - It is not recommended to drive after drinking or taking drugs. So you should avoid both of them while and before driving. Perform Regular Check Ups & Maintenance - You should have a regular 'check up' of your vehicle by a professional mechanic. The below mentioned checks should be especially performed on a regular basis: - Check Fluids: You should regularly check the battery and the radiator fluids especially in the extreme weather conditions. - Check Leakage: You should check that there is no leakage with a petroleum look or smell, or green or pink colored water. - Check Tires: You should carefully check the tires and the spare, windshield wipers and belts for abnormal wear. Thus, it is crystal clear we all can drive safely and avoid accidents by applying common sense practices as well as following the traffic rules. I hope you'll put these tips into action and will have a safe drive always! About the Author Lydia Quinn writes for Brandon Safety Lights, a leading provider of barricade lights and accessories.
